There will be much to do in during our 2 days Chattanooga, with Chickamauga Battlefield and Chattanooga National Military Park topping the list. Lookout Mountain has a number of things to keep us busy, too. With the Incline, Rock City and the must see roadside attraction, Confederama, we will enjoy a day of proverbial tourism.
We will be heading for Atlanta, spending the next 3 days here. Stone Mountain is ours to explore, with a tram ride to the top of the Mountain, trails, and attractions below, all add up to a fun filled day. There are 19 historically preserved building on the grounds featuring a Southern Plantation with formal gardens.
Underground Atlanta with restaurants and shopping is an attractive evening excursion. Daytime hours are for touring Atlanta proper, with a stop at CNN and lunch at the Atrium. Once again, there is much to see here, Cyclorama, Grant Park, the State Capitol, Churches, Mansions, Battle Sites, and the World of Coca Cola: and we will fit in as much as we possibly can.
Savannah, Georgia is next on our agenda. Magnolias quickly come to mind as we prepare to visit this beautiful city. There’s a marvelous tour, The Savannah Experience that gives you a 250 year history lesson in 90 minutes, and there’s a do-it-yourself trolley tour with 14 stops, allowing for on & off touring. The Girl Scouts began here, with Juliette-Gordon Low, and there is the Roundhouse Railroad Museum, the Ships of the Sea Museum, and many other historic sites. We will again fit in as much as possible, giving you a little time to visit your favorite locations.
Onto Charleston for the next 3 days! Here you will find Plantations and Lighthouses to tour, the Citadel, and many Civil War points of interest. How different our experience is from Sherman and his men. There is a lot to reflect on during our trip.
We will spend 2 days in Columbia South Carolina, visiting more Civil War Sites- Battlefields and Cemeteries, as we travel around the city.
Two nights in Durham, North Carolina will be our last stop on our historic 14 day adventure. Bennett Place Historic Park is on the agenda, and again, as many Civil War points of interest we can possibly fit in.
We hope you will be able to join us for this living history lesson, following Sherman’s footsteps, and adding some really fun activities.
